Modern Quilt Guild announcement

Ahem…

Announcing a new branch of the Modern Quilt Guild – the Rock River MQG!

Although I’m technically a part of both the Milwaukee and Madison MQGs, a group of us in the Janesville – Beloit – Rockton (Wisconsin/Illinois stateline) area have decided to create a new branch. The people I’ve met through the Madison and Milwaukee groups are wonderful, but this will be much closer to home, and already has a great core group of people to start it. You’ve read many references here to Jeanne at Grey Cat Quilts and Karrie at Freckled Whimsy – they’re the co-organizers of the group.

So… wanna join us? Click on over to the brand new online meeting place for the Rock River Modern Quilt Guild. The online presence is in the very early stages and may still need some tweaking, but it’s a functional site.

Although we’re still in the early stages, we have already scheduled our first official meeting on Saturday, November 6 at 2:00 p.m. Also, we’re keeping this group very informal at first. We’ll probably have sewing days and casual meetings, but we do not intend to collect dues or elect officers until we grow substantially. We want it to be fun, not a chore. Our definition of “Modern Quilting” is very loose – in fact, we joked that the name of the group should be the Rock River Modern(ish) Quilt Guild. We encourage new members to be open to all quilting possibilities, willing to expose themselves new techniques and ideas. If that sounds good and Janesville, WI is within a reasonable driving distance for you, we’d love for you to join us!
