I work at a sewing table we made from white melamine covered particleboard. You know – the stuff assemble-your-own furniture is made of. It’s a fantastic table, but sometimes I think the best thing about it is this:

Yep, I take notes right on the desk. It erases or washes off easily, and I never lose them.
